Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute
verbatim copies of this license document,
but changing it is not permitted.

0. Preamble

This License was created for, but is not limited to, educational works. With copyrights and educational Fair Use policies being a very unclear today, ensuring compliance could bankrupt many school districts; this makes it nearly impossible for a teacher to teach a class without breaking some copyrights. We wish to alleviate the confusion in using material in the classroom by presenting this License to you and whoever else these copyright laws affect.

This License ensures that written works remain modifiable and free, in the sense of freedom. Works placed under this License may be copied and distributed, with or without modification, either commercially or non-commercially, and on any medium, which include broadcast and/or performance and any other medium that is not yet invented. The works produced under this License may be used in any manner that this License states. This License ensures that those responsible for the work's creation get the credit that they deserve.

1. Applicability and Definitions

This License applies to any work containing a notice that the copyright holder has placed the work under this License. It may be a written work, a video, an image, an audio file, or a combination of any of these. From this point on, any such work will be known as the "Document."

Any member of the public is a licensee, and is addressed as "you."

Any works that are based on the Document will be henceforth called the "Modified Version."

A "Modifiable Version" of the Document is a version of the document in a standard, non-proprietary format, that is not restricted by copyrights or patents, either perceived, pending or otherwise. The Modifiable Version must not require any proprietary software to edit it. The Modifiable Version can be provided via the Internet, on a CD ROM, or on any other easily accessible medium.

2. Copying and Distribution

Anyone may copy and distribute this Document, in whole, in part, or as a Modified Version, for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial, provided that the Document, or its derived work, clearly states A) where the original Document may be obtained, B) that it is copied or redistributed under the terms of this license, and C) the name(s) of the author(s), in a prominent place.

3. Modification of Documents

Any and all Documents may be modified in any manner. The Modified Version must be labeled as such. You do not have to give the author(s) notification of your intentions to modify their work, but it is recommended to do so. You may not use the Document's author's (or authors') name(s) to assert or imply endorsement of the Modified Version. Modifying any Document does not give you permission to place the Document under a different license.

You must give clear notice, in a prominent place, that A) the Modified Version is under this License, either by 1) including this License in its entirety, or 2) that the Document is licensed under the terms of the FCL, which can be found at http://www.osef.org/FCL.html, B) where the original Document can be found, and C) the author's (or authors') name(s). All major modifications (including deletions) should be noted, but this is not necessary.

If you modify this Document, you must retain the Document's list of contributors and add your name to the list of contributors who have contributed to the version in your possession.

A Modifiable Version of the Modified Version must be provided, but only if large amounts of the original Document or another Modified Version have been changed (formatting style does not count as a large change) or deleted. You must note, however, the sections of the Document or Modified Version that you have changed. You do not have to provide a Modifiable Version of the original Document.

4. Publishing Documents

Publication of this Document, on any medium, is permitted, provided the following conditions are met: A) If the Document is published in book form, either physical or digital, the publisher's name must appear on the front and back covers and the title page. B) The republisher's name shall not be printed in larger type than the Document's title." C) The author's (or authors') name(s) must appear on the front and back covers and the title page. The title page must clearly display the title of the Document, a notice that the Document is under this License, and where the original Document and the full text of this license can be found.

After the title page and before the beginning of the Document you must display the content of the CONTRIBUTORS file that can be found with the Document. You cannot use the author's (or authors') name(s) to assert or imply endorsement of the published work without the author's (or authors') permission. It is recommended, but not mandatory, that you notify the author(s) of your intentions to publish their Document and/or give them a copy at no cost. The publisher must give notice to where a Modifiable Version can be obtained, or provide one with the published Document. The publisher is encouraged, but not obligated, to share profits from publication with the Author. The reason for doing so would be to encourage the author(s) to continue their work or start new works.

5. Combining Documents

You may combine this Document, modified or not and in whole or in part, with any other document under any other License (including this License), as long as the other License permits doing so. When combining Documents you must give notice as to which Document(s) is/are under this License, clearly state the author's (or authors') name(s), and where the original Document can be found. You may not use the author's (or authors') name(s) to assert or imply endorsement of the combined Document.

6. Collections of Documents

You may create collections of Documents that are under this License for public or personal use. In these collections you must give notice of the author's (or authors') name(s), that the Documents are under this License, and where the original Documents can be found. Typically this notice should go into the bibliography, or the closest resembling type of page. You may not use the author's (or authors') name(s) to assert or imply endorsement of the collection.

7. Translation

Translation of a Document is permitted. Translations shall be licensed under the same terms as other Modified Versions. The translator is encouraged, but not obliged to notify the author that a translated version is available.

8. License Change

The author(s) of the Document may change from this License to another at any time and continue work on the Document. Any part of the Document produced under this License before the License change will remain under this License. The author and others may add to any Document that is under this License with work under another License, as long as that work is clearly marked as being such.

9. Termination

If you are found to be in breach of this License, all rights extended to you through this License shall be revoked.

10. Warranty

Any Document or Modified Version that is placed under this License is provided "as is." As such, no person is liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages (including, but not limited to, procurement of substitute goods or services; loss of use, data, or profits; or business interruption), however caused, and on any theory of liability, whether in contract, strict liability, or tort (including negligence or otherwise) arising in any way out of the use of this documentation, even if advised of the possibility of such damage.

11. Future Revisions of this License

If the Document does not specify a version number of this License, the latest version of this License applies. Please see http://www.osef.org/FCL.html.

12. Implementation Requirements

To use this License for your work a few files must be made available along with the Document itself.

These files must be ASCII (plain) text, HTML, or any other human readable and modifiable format. The Author shall entitle the first file "CONTRIBUTORS." This file shall include the names of all persons who contributed to the Document. The author shouldn't have to track down each and every Modified Version. The Author shall entitle the second file "LICENSE." The Author shall place in this file an unmodified copy of this License. The file named LICENSE must be in a section of the Document of its own and the section must be labeled "Free Curricula License." A Modifiable Version of the Document must be made available.

The recommended method for using this License for a work is to include a modified form of the following statement in the Document:

Copyright © <YEAR> <YOUR NAME>.
Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or
modify this document under the terms of the Free
Curricula License, Version 1.0 or any later version
published by the Open Source Education Foundation.
A copy of the license is included in the section
entitled "Free Curricula License."
Replace the portion between the less than and greater than symbols with the applicable data.
